No this isn’t a get rich quick scheme, but it is a celebration of what God has done in the past 13 days.

A widow came to Elisha in distress because her husband had passed away, her family had accumulated debt and the creditors where coming to take her two sons as slaves to pay the debt.  Elisha asked her “What do you have in your house?” She told him, “Nothing,” thought about it a bit more and replied, “Oil.”  Elisha instructed her to collect jars, and not a few jars.  She collected jars.  Then Elisha told her to pour the oil into the jars.  She did.  As she poured, she asked for another jar and found she had tapped her supply of jars and then the oil stopped flowing.  Elisha told the woman to sell the oil to pay off her debts and then to live on the rest.

I love how God supplied a flow of oil to fill the jars she collected and not more or less.  Had she collected 10 jars, the oil would have flowed to fill 10 jars.  Had she collected 20, 30, 100 jars, the oil would have flowed to fill that number of jars.  The amount of oil that flowed was dependent on the amount of jars the woman had strength and faith to collect.  I’m not sure if the woman knew beforehand that this miracle would play out this way or not, but if she had I imagine she would have made herself obnoxious to everyone she knew to collect as many jars as she could because the blessing that was poured out to her was dependent on the work she did previously and in how many jars she had collected.

We are launching The Rising on September 14, 2014 and it takes a lot of money to launch a brand new church – $118,000 for us.  In the past 13 days, 4 very generous couples have hosted fundraising desserts for us where we’ve invited several people that we know from people I’ve gone to high school with, worked with, had the privilege to interact with in ministry, and they’ve come to these desserts, giving me a chance to paint the vision about the church we are launching and how they can financially partner with us. 61 people have come out to hear about The Rising and in the course of only 13 days we’ve had $51,600 pledged to be given within the next year to launch!  It’s unbelievable and it’s definitely because God’s hand is on us.

And so God has been blessing us but we aren’t finished and it hasn’t all been automatic.  There’s been a lot of work involved in this the past month from organizing, inviting people and making these desserts happen and there’s still more to be done.  My goal, and I think this is quite audacious, was to raise $100,000 by the end of the calendar year, but I’ve just now changed that to raise the total $118,000 by the end of the calendar year – just over a month to raise another $66,400.

I know that may seem like a lot, but really it’s not.  Round it down and take away the zeros and you get 66.  That means it would only take 66 people to pledge $1,000 for the year or $83.34 a month or just over $20 a week for the next year and we have all we need to launch a brand new church where people who are far from God can come to discover that God isn’t far from them.  To launch a church where marriages held together by a worn thread can be restored and resurrected and families can be made strong and whole.  To launch a church where kids can grow up discovering that a life with God is better than a life without him.  Only 66 people to give $1,000 to launch a church where not only people’s lives will be forever impacted but also their eternity.

My sole role for the rest of this period of over a month is to find more jars – 66 people to join in with the 61 who have already committed to add to the $51,600 already pledged to raise everything we need to launch.  My question for you is are you one of the 66?

It’s easy to give and set up a recurring gift on our website or by clicking this link.  Even if you can’t do $1,000 over a year, what you can do is welcome and greatly appreciated!  Everything you give is fully tax deductible but more important it goes to launch a movement designed to see people far from God raised to true life.

Let’s collect and fill some jars together!
