That’s how my daughter says “shoes.”  It actually sounds like “juice” but with a “sh” in front.

A couple on our church launch team partnered with Soles4Souls and pledged to raise 25,000 pairs of shoes to benefit people in Third World Countries and victims of natural disasters; we’ve come alongside them as a church to help them in their mission. So far, with only 30 people we’ve managed to raise close to 800 pairs of shoes in a matter of months.

This couple discovered that shoes can dramatically change a person’s life, especially in another country.  For instance, kids in some areas aren’t permitted to attend school without shoes.  In other areas, adults aren’t able to get jobs without the proper footwear.  Something as simple as a pair of shoes can radically alter someone’s current circumstances and future trajectory.

I own 4 pairs of shoes.

As a church we are launching a Shoe Drive in 3 Norfolk zip codes: 23507, 23510, 23517 which gives us close to 10,000 residences.

On Wednesday and Thursday, May 28th and 29th, we are giving teams of two people a map with a specific route, door hangers, bags, and rubber bands. Each team is going door-to-door, leaving these materials on people’s doors.  On Saturday, May 31st, at 1pm we are driving those routes and collecting the shoes that have been set out.

As a team of 30 people we can do this, but I figure, “Why keep all the fun to ourselves?”

I want to invite you to partner with us in 1 of several ways:

-Help us pass out door hangers and bags any time during the day or evening on Wednesday and/or Thursday the 28th or 29th.
-Help us collect shoes at 1pm on Saturday May 31st.
-Donate some shoes yourself and tell your friends/church about this effort.

Because of your involvement you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of so many people.  Can’t wait to have you join us!
